Location Requirement: This role requires on-site work in Richmond, CA, and at healthcare project sites throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Only candidates currently residing within commuting distance or already planning a move to the Bay Area will be considered. Job Description An Overaa Healthcare Project Engineer (PE) is a contributing member of the project team and is instrumental in project success through engagement with craft field operations and support of project management duties. As a member of an individual Project Team, the PE is responsible for the smooth administration of healthcare construction projects, including close collaboration with the Superintendent and Project Manager to support the needs of the project. The PE participates in scheduling, estimating, cost control, document control, regulatory coordination, and jobsite production, with the overall goal of delivering safe, compliant, high-quality projects while achieving maximum profitability. California’s 2030 seismic safety requirements for general acute-care hospitals are continuing to drive investment in healthcare construction, modernization, and infrastructure. This position will support complex healthcare projects throughout the Bay Area, including hospitals, medical centers, emergency departments, and other occupied or acute-care environments. Prior HCAI/OSHPD experience is valued but not required. Overaa welcomes strong Project Engineers who are interested in developing their healthcare construction expertise while working alongside experienced project leaders. Project Engineers may also be assigned responsibilities in estimating, business development, and preconstruction. Duties and Responsibilities • Develop and manage the submittal process., • Manage and process RFIs., • Assist with HCAI/OSHPD documentation, inspections, approvals, and compliance requirements under the guidance of experienced project leadership., • Coordinate with project stakeholders, including owners, architects, inspectors, subcontractors, and healthcare facility representatives., • Develop PCOs and manage the change-order process., • Support subcontractor buyout, coordination, and management., • Maintain project document control., • Develop and manage the procurement tracking log, including long-lead healthcare equipment and materials., • Support project startup, takeoff, estimating, and preconstruction activities., • Assist the Superintendent in preparing the weekly Short-Term Look-Ahead Schedule to monitor progress and ensure all work is scheduled for maximum efficiency., • Attend and participate in all project meetings., • Manage project closeout, including punch lists, O&Ms, spare parts, warranties, and applicable HCAI/OSHPD documentation., • Support the project team in developing project-specific work plans., • Learn and support the specialized requirements of occupied healthcare construction, including infection control, shutdowns, phasing, and maintaining facility operations. Overall Responsibilities and Authority • The PE works equally and directly for both the Project Manager and the project Superintendent., • Performs project duties with an appropriate sense of urgency., • Works as a team with assigned Superintendents and Project Managers to build projects in a controlled manner., • The role of the PE on a project is to administer project business, including document control, startup activities, buyout, submittal management, RFI processing, subcontractor coordination, regulatory documentation, and support of the Superintendent’s technical and administrative needs., • Supports and takes ownership of assigned project responsibilities from takeoff and preconstruction through final closeout and turnover., • Primarily works at the project site. When assigned to a site, the PE is expected to be at their desk and ready to work at the beginning of the workday., • Acts as a company representative to the Owner on assigned projects., • Maintains strict adherence to Company processes and procedures., • Studies the prime contract with the Owner and is responsible for knowing the Company’s rights and obligations under the contract., • Understands the notice provisions of the prime contract and strictly adheres to them to preserve the Company’s rights and reduce risk., • The PE is empowered to escalate issues to more senior managers and seek greater Company support at the earliest sign of jeopardy to the project’s success. Qualifications • Two to five years of relevant project experience across multiple phases of construction., • Experience supporting project responsibilities such as submittals, RFIs, change orders, procurement, scheduling, cost tracking, subcontractor coordination, and project closeout., • Experience working for a general contractor or major trade contractor on commercial, institutional, healthcare, life science, education, or similarly complex projects., • Healthcare construction or HCAI/OSHPD experience is preferred but not required., • Interest in developing expertise in healthcare construction, including regulatory requirements, occupied environments, infection control, shutdowns, phasing, and facility coordination., • Degree in Construction Management, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, or a related field., • Organized, with a systematic approach to achieving high-level results., • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage diverse personalities and coordinate with owners, inspectors, design teams, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders., • Expertise in QSP, SWPPP, LEED, and sustainability is a plus., • Knowledge of Procore, PlanGrid, Bluebeam, Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Primavera, Navisworks, Microsoft Project, and Viewpoint project management software is a plus. This does not include bonus compensation or other benefits such as health, disability, life, retirement, or other benefits that may impact total compensation. The actual salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on several factors that may include, but are not limited to, skill set, experience, education, qualifications, and location.
