The Early Childhood Education Teacher creates and establishes a solid educational foundation for young students. They encourage socio-emotional development by using one’s environment to mold “critical thinkers” and “young artists.” The Early Childhood Education Teacher builds and strengthens the community and family relationships that are integral to their student’s growth and creates pathways for engagement, including orientations, educational activities and events.


DUTIES, TASKS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Classroom Management

  • Prepare and maintain classrooms according to the Early Childhood Environmental Ratings Scale (ECERS) standard
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment that encourages health and hygiene of students and staff 
  • Ensure the supervision of students and maintain sight lines at all times
  • Establish classroom rules and guidelines that build on clear expectations of classroom behavior and promote order and effective routines for students
  • Follow all COVID-19 protocols and guidelines recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the New York State Department of Health (DoH)

Student Development

  • Maintain student logs i.e attendance roster, daily health inspection record, screening forms, incident reports
  • Provide services to all students with respect and confidentiality in efforts to promote equity, diversity and an inclusive classroom
  • Partner with the Education Director and the teaching staff on weekly/monthly instructional lesson plans that are both creative and engaging to students in accordance with the NYC Department of Education and HighScope Early Learning Curriculums AND that meet student developmental goals
  • Work along with the Education Director and Teaching Assistant to host bi-annual student evaluation sessions with families that review student development and strengthens family partnership
  • Implements appropriate behavior management strategies to achieve and maintain a functional learning classroom environment

Family Engagement

  • Create and post monthly classroom newsletters keeping families regularly informed of, but not limited to, school requirements and upcoming events. 
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute engaging classroom-level family events throughout the school year, including seasonal activities, multicultural gatherings, and end-of-year graduation/culminating celebrations that build community and honor student achievements.
  • Identify barriers to family engagement and provide resources for families as needed 

Administration

  • Prep your classrooms daily before the arrival of your students
  • Participate in weekly and/or monthly staff meetings
  • Attend professional development workshops and seminars as needed

REQUIREMENTS

  • NY State Initial or Professional Teaching Certification (Early Childhood / Birth–Grade 2) or,
  • A formally approved study plan 
  • State Central Registry (SCR) Child Abuse Clearance, PETS (Personnel Eligibility Tracking System) registration/clearance, up-to-date medical clearance / TB Test as mandated by NYC DOHMH
