    Art Instructor – Saturdays Schedule: Saturdays, approximately 5 hours per week Position Type: Contractor Location: Bayside NY Pay: $50-55 Position Overview We are seeking a patient, creative, and dependable Art Instructor to provide individualized art instruction and support to a person with a developmental disability. The ideal candidate will have a background in studio art, fine arts, art education, or a related field, along with experience working with individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities. This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys using art as a way to encourage creativity, self-expression, skill development, independence, and meaningful community participation. Responsibilities The Art Instructor will: • Plan and provide engaging, individualized art activities based on the person's interests, abilities, and goals., • Teach and support a variety of art techniques, which may include drawing, painting, mixed media, crafts, sculpture, or other studio-art activities., • Break down art projects into clear, manageable steps and adapt instruction to the individual's learning style and abilities., • Encourage creativity, choice-making, independence, confidence, and self-expression., • Provide appropriate support while allowing the individual to complete as much of the work independently as possible., • Help organize and maintain art materials and supplies., • Assist the individual in exploring art-related opportunities in the community when appropriate, such as art classes, museums, exhibitions, workshops, or community art programs., • Maintain a safe, respectful, patient, and positive learning environment., • Communicate with the individual/family regarding activities, progress, interests, and future projects., • Follow the individual's established goals and support plan as applicable. Qualifications Preferred qualifications: • Background or education in Studio Art, Fine Arts, Art Education, Art Therapy, or a related field., • Strong skills in one or more areas of visual art., • Previous experience teaching or providing art instruction., • Experience working with individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities is strongly preferred., • Ability to modify teaching methods based on an individual's learning style and support needs., • Patient, compassionate, reliable, and encouraging., • Strong communication and interpersonal skills., • Comfortable providing one-to-one individualized support., • Dependable and able to commit consistently to the Saturday schedule. Schedule This is a Saturday position for approximately 5 hours per week. We are looking for someone interested in developing a consistent and positive working relationship rather than providing occasional art lessons. Ideal Candidate We would especially like to hear from artists, art teachers, studio art graduates/students, teaching artists, special education professionals with an art background, or others who combine strong artistic skills with experience supporting people with disabilities.
