BURDLIFE Jewelry Location: Nashville, TN preferred — with frequent travel to Houston, San Antonio and Atlanta Employment: Full-Time Travel: Approximately 30–40% About BURDLIFE BURDLIFE is a growing jewelry, piercing and experiential retail brand with stores across Houston, Nashville, San Antonio and Atlanta. As we continue to expand, we are looking for an experienced, highly accountable and exceptionally organized Director of Retail Operations to oversee the day-to-day performance of all BURDLIFE retail locations. This is a hands-on leadership position. You will be responsible for ensuring every store is operating at BURDLIFE standards — including sales performance, staffing, scheduling, training, compliance, inventory, customer experience, payroll management, store appearance and execution of company initiatives. You will directly manage and hold Store Managers accountable for their locations. The right person is structured, decisive, extremely organized and comfortable managing multiple stores and personalities while maintaining high expectations. What You'll OwnMulti-Store Operations Oversee daily operations across BURDLIFE stores in: Houston Nashville San Antonio Atlanta more coming... Ensure every location consistently follows company policies, systems and operating procedures. You will be responsible for identifying operational problems before they become larger issues and ensuring they are corrected quickly. Store Manager Leadership Directly manage and develop Store Managers across all BURDLIFE locations. Responsibilities include: • Weekly Store Manager meetings, • Setting clear expectations and deadlines, • Reviewing store goals and performance, • Following up on incomplete tasks, • Coaching Store Managers, • Conducting performance reviews, • Creating improvement plans when necessary, • Ensuring managers are properly managing their teams, • Identifying leadership or staffing gaps, • Holding managers accountable for results Store Managers should know exactly what is expected of them every week. Sales & KPI Accountability Partner with ownership to establish and enforce store-level sales and operational goals. Monitor: • Daily sales, • Weekly sales, • Monthly sales, • Sales vs. goal, • Conversion, • Average order value, • Units per transaction, • Piercing revenue, • Permanent jewelry revenue, • Appointment performance, • Individual employee sales, • Store traffic, • Labor percentage, • Payroll, • Customer reviews, • Event performance, • Inventory performance Each Store Manager should understand exactly where their store stands against goal. When a location is underperforming, you are responsible for identifying why and creating a corrective action plan. Goal & Reporting Systems Maintain a centralized company scorecard showing each store's goals and actual performance side-by-side. Ownership should never have to search through multiple emails, spreadsheets or documents to understand how a store is performing. You will ensure reporting is: • Accurate, • Updated, • Organized, • Submitted on time, • Easy to understand, • Consistent across every location Staffing & Scheduling Oversee staffing levels and scheduling across all stores. Ensure: • Stores are properly staffed, • Payroll remains within budget, • Managers are scheduling appropriately, • Full-time employee requirements are followed, • Break requirements are followed, • Overtime is controlled, • Call-outs are properly managed, • Coverage gaps are addressed immediately, • Peak selling hours have appropriate staffing You will review schedules before they are finalized when necessary. Hiring & Team Development Work with Store Managers and ownership to identify hiring needs. Help oversee: • Recruiting, • Interviewing, • Hiring, • Onboarding, • Training, • Performance management, • Promotions, • Corrective action, • Terminations when necessary Develop strong Store Managers who can independently run successful locations. Training Create consistency across every BURDLIFE location. Ensure employees are properly trained on: • Customer greetings, • Selling, • Jewelry knowledge, • Piercing services, • Permanent jewelry, • Checkout procedures, • Appointment procedures, • Promotions, • Discounts, • Customer service, • Store policies, • Opening procedures, • Closing procedures, • Safety, • Compliance Maintain company training materials and ensure new employees complete required training. Compliance Compliance is a major responsibility of this position. Ensure every store maintains required documentation and follows applicable company, health department and regulatory procedures. This includes oversight of: • Piercing compliance, • Employee certifications, • Licenses, • Bloodborne pathogen documentation, • Sterilization records, • Spore testing, • Autoclave records, • Consent forms, • Required customer identification, • Sharps procedures, • Equipment records, • Health department documentation, • Required printed and digital records Conduct regular compliance audits. Missing documentation or incomplete compliance procedures must be corrected immediately. Inventory & Product Operations Work with Store Managers and the corporate team to maintain accurate inventory. Responsibilities include: • Inventory counts, • Receiving procedures, • Transfers, • Damages, • Loss prevention, • Shrink, • Product organization, • Stock levels, • Replenishment, • Store-to-store transfers, • New product launches Investigate unusual inventory discrepancies. Store Standards Every BURDLIFE location should feel like the same brand. Conduct regular store visits and ensure standards for: • Cleanliness, • Merchandising, • Displays, • Lighting, • Jewelry presentation, • Piercing areas, • Permanent jewelry stations, • Employee appearance, • Music, • Customer experience, • Opening/closing standards, • Back-of-house organization Issues discovered during a store visit should have a documented corrective action and deadline. Customer Experience Maintain an exceptional customer experience across every location. Monitor: • Google reviews, • Customer complaints, • Refunds, • Returns, • Service issues, • Piercing concerns, • Customer recovery situations Identify patterns and implement solutions rather than treating problems as isolated incidents. New Store Openings Support the successful opening of new BURDLIFE locations. Responsibilities may include: • Hiring, • Training, • Operational setup, • Inventory, • Store procedures, • Vendor coordination, • Compliance preparation, • Opening checklists, • Employee scheduling, • Management training, • Launch-week execution The goal is for every new store to operate correctly from day one. Weekly Responsibilities This role operates on a structured weekly cadence. Monday — Store Performance Meeting Review each location's: • Previous week's sales, • Sales vs. goal, • Payroll, • Staffing, • Appointments, • Piercings, • Permanent jewelry, • Events, • Customer issues, • Compliance issues, • Inventory issues, • Current week's goals Each manager leaves the meeting with clearly documented priorities. Thursday — Accountability Meeting Review: • Progress toward weekly sales goals, • Outstanding assignments, • Staffing issues, • Upcoming weekend, • Appointments, • Store events, • Inventory needs, • Compliance, • Problems requiring immediate attention Problems should be addressed before the weekend rather than discovered afterward. Monthly Responsibilities At the end of every month, provide ownership with a company-wide retail operations report including: • Sales by store, • Goal vs. actual, • Payroll, • Labor percentage, • Sales by employee, • Piercing performance, • Permanent jewelry performance, • Appointments, • Events, • Customer reviews, • Staffing, • Turnover, • Inventory, • Compliance, • Operational issues, • Corrective actions, • Next month's prioritiesKey Performance Indicators Success in this position will be measured through results. KPIs include: • Store sales vs. goal, • Company retail sales vs. goal, • Labor percentage, • Payroll management, • Store conversion, • Average order value, • Employee productivity, • Piercing revenue, • Permanent jewelry revenue, • Appointment performance, • Inventory accuracy, • Shrink, • Customer reviews, • Compliance completion, • Employee turnover, • Training completion, • Store audit scores, • Manager performance, • Timely completion of operational assignmentsWho We're Looking For We are looking for someone who: • Has multi-unit retail management experience, • Has managed Store Managers directly, • Is extremely organized, • Is comfortable holding people accountable, • Is confident having difficult conversations, • Understands retail sales, • Understands payroll and labor management, • Understands scheduling, • Is highly detail-oriented, • Is strong with spreadsheets and reporting, • Can manage multiple locations simultaneously, • Follows through consistently, • Does not allow tasks to remain unfinished, • Can build systems and processes, • Can train and develop managers, • Can identify problems quickly, • Takes ownership rather than waiting for direction, • Is comfortable traveling frequently, • Can occasionally work evenings or weekends when business needs require it Experience in jewelry, fashion, beauty, piercing, hospitality or high-touch specialty retail is strongly preferred. Experience opening new stores is highly preferred. Leadership Style We are looking for someone who can balance strong leadership with accountability. This person should be supportive and available to Store Managers while maintaining clear expectations. Being liked by the team is not the measure of success. Creating strong managers, successful stores, excellent customer experiences and consistent operational execution is. What Success Looks Like A successful Director of Retail Operations creates a retail organization where ownership does not need to follow up repeatedly to make sure basic responsibilities are being completed. Store Managers know their goals. Schedules are completed correctly. Compliance is current. Training is completed. Inventory is accurate. Stores are clean and properly merchandised. Problems are communicated early. Performance issues are addressed. Reports are accurate. Deadlines are met. And most importantly, every BURDLIFE location is operating toward its sales and profitability goals. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of the entire retail operation and treats every location as though it were their own business.
