Provide service, information, and aid to students, employees, and visitors and protect all property within the area under the control and jurisdiction of the United Independent School District; Exercise judgment with the limit prescribed by law, rules, and regulations of the Board of Trustees and departmental policies and procedures. High School Diploma or Equivalent Must possess a valid and current Texas Peace Officer License issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). Must have a valid Texas Operator or Class C driver's license and be insurable by the District. Must complete an Active Shooter Response Training through A.L.E.R.R.T. within 180 days of appointment (Texas Education Code §37.012) Successfully pass criminal history check, drug screening test, and psychological screening process May be required to successfully complete a department approved employment physical and be declared in writing by healthcare providers to be physically sound and free from any defect that may adversely affect the applicant's performance of duty as a peace officer. Must complete a TCOLE required Personal History Statement Background ( Texas Occupations Code §1701.451) Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting records check prior to starting employment; non-refundable fee paid by the applicant. Must be eligible to be bonded as required by Texas Education Code §37.081 (h) Provide Official Record of Firearms qualification within the last 12 months Must demonstrate proficiency in firearms standards as set by TCOLE and Department Policy (Texas Administrative Code §218.9) Must successfully pass a department approved field training program Promote and support the school district's mission by assisting administrators and faculty in accomplishing that goal. Conduct campus/class presentations. Conduct presentations at community organizations. Perform general police work in protecting life and property through the enforcement of federal/state laws and city ordinances, as well as the laws set forth by the Texas Education Agency. Conduct routine patrol in assigned areas to deter/detect violations of laws (criminal and traffic) and take appropriate action when violations occur. Conduct investigations of crime/incidents; do follow-up investigations as necessary. Make arrests, issue citations, obtain and secure evidence, protect crime scenes and testify in court; locate missing persons, and lost or stolen property. Responsible for maintaining district-issued equipment. Document and complete computerized/digital reports of crimes committed, traffic accidents, and violations and report other incidents as needed. Ability to act without direct supervision when need arises and exercise judgment in meeting emergencies or situations when elements of personal danger arise. Establish and maintain rapport with students, staff, and community. Respond and investigate any calls from campuses and/or school district facilities concerning security problems. Control traffic and parking on the school campus, athletic events, school zone crosswalks, or public roadways as needed for safety purposes. Meets and maintains minimum vision standards for a Texas Driver's License. Visual acuity to work with details, computer terminals, extensive reading, and preparing and analyzing data. Physical activities include but are not limited to, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, running, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive movements. Able to use available equipment with a reasonable amount of force necessary to protect oneself and others, complete a lawful arrest, and prevent escapes. Able to legally operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner, especially in law enforcement situations. Able to suppress fires, administer first aid and/or cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Able to operate communication equipment. Able to comprehend verbal, written, and electronic communications; able to articulate verbal, written, and electronic communication where others can comprehend. Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to confer with district personnel during regular business hours. Regular and reliable attendance and punctuality are essential job responsibilities. Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. Must attend and successfully complete all department-scheduled In-service Training, Continuing Education Training, and any other required mandated training. In the event of a school closure in response to a disaster, flood, extreme weather condition, fuel curtailment, epidemic, pandemic or other calamity, the following duties and responsibilities will be added to the above listed Major Job Responsibilities and Duties, as directed by the Superintendent. Usage of personal equipment, including but not limited to personal cellular phone, personal computer, and personal internet service when working from home during a District closure due to government or Board order or during an emergency affecting normal District operations. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by supervisor. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives. Coordinate with campuses/facilities to ensure compliance with District Standard Response Protocols and state mandates concerning Emergency Operations Plans (EOP) for their assigned campus and ensure timely reporting to the Sergeant (when applicable) Conduct campus/facility door audits and ensure timely reporting to the supervising sergeant. Coordinate with assigned campuses/facilities to ensure compliance with state laws relating to required safety drills. Coordinate and assist with the District's Safety and Security Department. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); Maintain emotional and psychological control under stress; May be exposed to body fluids and other contagious diseases and illnesses; Lifts 10-50 pounds frequently, 50-100 pounds occasionally; Moderate pushing and pulling of up to 250 pounds, carrying, squatting, and bending; Strenuous sitting, walking, standing, kneeling, running, and climbing; Moderate exposure to noise; Ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations; Work and train in varying climate conditions; Exposure to sun, heat, cold, inclement weather, and dusty working conditions; Travel throughout the district at odd hours and be on call 24 hours as needed or requested by a supervisor; An employee may be required to perform any or all of the above physical requirements.
