Werner Learning & Coaching is hiring 1 to 2 college counselors to guide high school students through the full admissions journey, from first list to final decision. We are a premium, founder-led practice built on the Werner Way: we teach students how to think, so they leave with the judgment and ownership to run their own process. If you coach that way, and you can move comfortably between Common App, UC, Counselmore, and a dozen other portals in a single afternoon, we’d love to meet you. About WL&C We serve families across the country with K-12 tutoring, test prep, executive function coaching, and comprehensive college counseling. Our students have earned $2M+ in merit aid since 2023 and 200+ acceptances to schools including Cornell, Yale, Columbia, UPenn, Georgetown, Duke, Northwestern, UCLA, and USC. We’ve delivered 5,000+ lessons, and families stay with us because they always know where their student stands. You’ll join a team of educators and admin support who handle scheduling, billing, and logistics, so your time goes to students. Who you are You are a high-energy, warm, direct advisor who builds real relationships with teenagers and earns the trust of their parents. You coach students to find their own voice rather than polishing it for them. You’re organized, you follow through, and you notice when a deadline, a form, or a recommender is about to become a problem before anyone else does. You communicate with families in a clear, confident tone that makes them feel the plan is handled. What you’ll do • Lead weekly 1:1 online sessions that move each student through a complete admissions strategy, • Build balanced school lists across fit, finances, and major, with a clear reach, target, and likely mix, • Guide essays from brainstorm to outline to draft to final, protecting each student’s voice and authenticity, • Own timelines and checklists across Common App, UC, and Coalition, including recommender coordination and document flow, • Advise on testing strategy (SAT, ACT, or test-optional) and prepare Activity Lists, resumes, interviews, and scholarship applications, • Track every task and milestone in Counselmore and keep shared Drive folders clean, • Log session notes within 12 hours and send each family a concise update by Friday at 5pm ET, • Support deferral, waitlist, and final decision coaching, including letters of continued interest, • Honor our 24-hour reschedule policy and keep student information confidential What you need to know cold • Common App: accounts, FERPA, Activity List, Honors, Additional Info, and recommender coordination, • UC Application: PIQs, majors, and campus-by-campus requirements, • College Board platforms: digital SAT and Bluebook, sending scores, and AP/IB reporting, plus ACT registration and score sending, • Financial aid: FAFSA and CSS Profile timelines and documentation, • Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail), Zoom, and Google Meet, with fast, reliable internet, • Counselmore, Naviance, Coalition, and Scoir experience is a plus, and we’ll train you on the rest. If you pick up new platforms quickly, tell us about it. What you bring • Proven outcomes: admit highlights, merit awards, or both (references welcome), • An essay coaching portfolio, such as before-and-after samples or edited drafts with your commentary, • U.S. residence and eligibility to work as a 1099 contractor, • At least 5 hours per week, with flexibility across the week Details • Starting rate of $82.50/hr, flexible based on experience and fit, • Fully remote, with a schedule built around your availability, • Templates, a resource library, a Counselmore workspace, and ops support provided, • A steady stream of referrals from our families and team, • Before your first student assignment, you’ll complete the WL&C Certification: short self-paced modules plus a scored mock advising session. It’s how we make sure every family gets the same standard of care.
